“For God did not give us a spirit of timidity (fear), but a spirit of power, of love, and of self-discipline.”—2 Timothy 1:7
I have found that not long after my McDonalds meal, a carb induced energy rush happens. Then… it goes away and my body wants to slow down. My power source wasn’t healthy.
I have also found that after a balanced home cooked meal my energy is more steady and sustained. Why? Because my body has its proper nutrients being stored in useful places.
When I don’t feed myself on healthy spiritual food, I become lethargic and self-centered. I look at my problems and shortcomings. I become timid about following the heart of God. I begin to fear the great unknowns in life. I try to live in my own strength. I fail. I am not in a place to enjoy the favor of God.
When I spent time alone with God in prayer and His Word, I become more bold in walking into the unknown. I am confident in knowing that God surrounds me with His presence. I am more able to discern the voice of the Shepherd. I am sensitive to the nudges of the Spirit.
We have a choice in what fuels us. In the short term, it may be easier to devour a quick fast food snack for our soul but it doesn’t last long. Jesus promised us the fuel source we need to keep us going in this marathon of faith. He provides us everything we need for the moment we are in.
Our Father offers us His Holy Spirit of power.
